Why you should avoid fad diets

Fad Diets entice us with promises of quick weight loss. Many of these have no scientific evidence to back them, and are extreme in terms of nutrient or food group distribution, ie, they require avoiding some food groups or nutrients altogether (eg Atkins diet which severely restricts carbs, or blood group diets wherein many food groups are avoided based on the blood type). Such claims are not supported by any recognized world or national health agencies, such as World Health Organization (WHO), USDA (US Department of Agriculture) or the ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research).
